  • As a reminder to all skier and snowboarders that whilst skiing is great fun it is not without risk Vail has initiated a Play Safe Campaign for 2012. The campaign starts with a fresh take on the skier responsibility code, with wordy warnings like “Whenever starting downhill or merging, look uphill and yield,” boiled down to “Merge with care” or “Look before you go” printed on bright signs stuck at a crossroads.  When renting your skis or board it is worth thinking again about a helmet too..

  • With winds gusting as high as 60 to 75 miles per hour Saturday morning, both Vail and Beaver Creek resorts started off the New Year’s Eve ski day closed.

    Neither resort opened chairlifts on schedule Saturday morning, shaving off hours of time on the mountain for thousands of skiers in town over the holiday weekend because the resorts are unable to safely operate chairlifts under such windy conditions.
